In October 2022, I decided to set up EF Deep Research with the aim of contributing new things to financial publications. As many of you know, I passed the CFA Level I exam in 2021. All the knowledge acquired in the study of the exam plus a background as a private investor led me to think that there was a niche to cover within investment theses: the deep research.
In my opinion, whenever you exhibit your work, whether for free or for a few dollars in exchange, you are subject to criticism. And you have to be aware that not everyone will like you, so you have to show who you really are. However, there is a balance between the latter and what should be a driver of any project, whether commercial or not: adding value.
Added value is an improvement or addition to something that makes it worth more.
That said, is EF Deep Research worth it?
Judging by the graph and the fact that the subscription is free, we could say that it has not exactly been a success. However, if I stick to quality rather than quantity (something I like to put into practice in my life), the balance is more than satisfactory. I have very high-level subscribers with a lot of engagement and loyalty. Lucky me!
Pivot!
Making a pivot is a strategic move that you can take to ensure that your business remains viable and profitable.
And to do that, you have to find the right balance between your own personality and value for the subscriber. You have to adapt without damaging the main philosophy. That's why not long ago I started publishing once a week under the “Weekly Thoughts” format, with short reflections on finance and markets. Today we celebrate #20 Weekly Thoughts. And my reflection is: does this type of publication really provide any value?
Annoying my loyal subscribers is not in my plans. I have experienced many times being subscribed to a newsletter and receiving annoying and worthless emails on a daily basis. The truth is that I end up clicking unfollow. I do not want that for myself or for you. I want a product that provides value, that is simple and concise, and that does not overwhelm you.
This is something I would like you to tell me about. I will also attach a survey for this purpose.
Learning plan
I admit it. I am not a marketer, I am a financial analyst. All the time spent looking for clicks and engagement that has no substance could be used on quality content for you.
I know. Many of you are advanced investors. But my question is: wouldn't you like to have a program at hand that would help you understand the financial analysis process in a complete and professional manner?
I am still thinking about how to provide more value for you. In addition to small and unknown investment gems, a learning program. What do you think? I want to know your opinion.
The survey below 👇. Do not hesitate to contact me and give me your opinions. It's very helpful.
And remember, do not forget to read my latest write-up:
Greetings and have a good week.
